HBO’s The Defiant Ones documents the extraordinary lives of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine; fulfilling their uniquely American dreams. Most fans know the highlights, so we needed to find a new way in. We teased their story by asking our audience to consider the many barriers these men and their cohort have broken, begging the question, what life might be like if they hadn’t.

When the pandemic temporarily killed live sports, we worked with famed broadcaster Joe Buck to turn help us turn fans everyday social posts into professional sports. We got far more responses than we could keep up with, proving that Dew mania is alive and well, and that people really need sports. Until they returned, we wanted fans to know DEW had their back.

Remember when well-intentioned adults said your dreams for the future were unrealistic? We challenged this outdated paradigm with FutureScape, a unique digital product that matches kids abilities and passions to careers where they can thrive, not just survive.

During Covid, MTN DEW asked us to capture the attention of Gen Z. We found insights that this generation experiences “anemoia”, a feeling of nostalgia for an era they never actually lived through. We created a series of animated stories with a soundtrack that taps directly into these feelings.

MTN DEW was a big sponsor of NBA All-Star Week when I was at Pepsi. We built a fade barbershop, green room lounge and bar, and full court DEW Hustle ball. We blanketed Chicago with green and DEW in the house. But the clear highlight was the rings.

We created gold rings for players and select fans to add to their bling and spread the gospel. But Scottie Pippen rocking his DEW ring with his six championship rings was next level for this fanboy.
